The Herlingshaw family


 



Generation 5

John Shaw born 22nd August 1790, died 8th November 1830 in Wensley married Mary Wagstaff of Youlgreave (born 17th October 1790, died about 1852 in Wensley) on 27th December 1813. She was the daughter of Josiah Wagstaff and Dorothy Ragg. John was at various times described as a labourer, lead miner, farmer and farm worker. Their children included:

  Elizabeth, born 19th June 1814 in Oaker Side, died 7th August 1880, married John Lomas on 8th October 1838 in Darley

  Emily, born 10th November 1816

  Millicent, born 1817, died 19th July 1829

  John, born 9th May 1819 in Cross Green, died 25th October 1869, married Mary Dakin in Elton

  Sarah, born 14th April 1822, died 19th October 1824

  Josiah, born 21st February 1825, died 5th March 1825

  George, born 20th January 1828

Elizabeth and John Lomas had several children including Joseph born 1840, Ellen born 1842, John born 1845 and George born 1849.

 

Generation 6

John Shaw born 1819 in Cross Green, married Mary Dakin, born 1824 on 27th January 1847 at Elton Chapel. They were Mary Jane Shaw's parents and the first William Herlingshaw's grandparents. Mary was the daughter of Samuel Dakin and Elizabeth Marchant and was born on 13th April 1824 in Elton. After John Shaw died on 25th October 1869 in Oaker End his wife Mary remarried to John Wright.
