James Shaw
and Charlotte Slater
James Shaw was born in 1857 and died in 1935. He married
Charlotte Slater, born 1862, died 1904, in 1885. Like his brothers
Joseph and George Henry he moved from agricultural/lead mining Darley to an
industrial part of Derbyshire. James' parents were John Shaw and Mary Dakin.
James and Charlotte had these children:
Maria Eleanor (or Maria Elizabeth), born 1887
in Chesterfield
John Samuel, born 1889, died 1968, both in
Chesterfield
Hannah Maria, born 1891, died 1963, both in
Chesterfield, married
Frederick Hayes
Alfred James, born 16th April 1896, died 1974
both in Chesterfield
Charles William, born 6th May 1898, died 1983
both in Chesterfield
In 1939 and about 1941 Alfred James and Charles William were living with their
elder brother John Samuel and his wife Dora (1888-1956, née
Cooke) at 45 Racecourse Road, Newbold, Derbyshire (a house which still exists).
John Samuel Shaw and Dora had the following children:
Mary, born 1922 in Chapel-en-le-Frith
William H, born 1924 in Basford
Eileen M, born 1926 in Chesterfield
and probably Jack born in 1921, died 1988.
